Overview
In this lesson, students will explore the challenges facing farmers today. These challenges include environmental, economic, politcal, and land use challenges. Governments are responsible for ensuring that everyone can access safe and affordable food. Growing as much food as possible right here in BC is the best way to ensure we always have enough. Plus, it helps reduce the environmental impact of transporting food long distances.

1) Identify the difference between a risk and a threat.
2) Climate threats: Sumas Flood of 2022, Heat dome of 2021
3) Political Threats: Support of Local Food Production and the Role of Supply Management
4) Disease: Avian Influenza
5) Urban Sprawl: Role of the Agricultural Land Reserve
6) Economic Threats: Increasing prices: Carbon Tax, Feed Prices, Tarrif and Trade agreements
